Grain production in India hit a record high of 305.40 Million Metric Tons in 2020-21 as per the USDA report. The government of states of Haryana and Punjab are pushing farmers towards crop diversification from paddy and wheat cycle to other crops. Unfortunately, the area of Maize cultivation in Punjab is just up by 2000 hectares.

Further, due to low monsoon, many farmers may shift to maize cultivation. The price of Maize in many mandis across India is selling below MSP even with high demand.
