426 new Coronavirus cases reported in West Bengal today as total cases surge past 8613. Active cases as on date stand at 4743 as a total of 3465 patients have recovered and 405 deaths in the state.
As presented on the graph, Coronavirus cases in West Bengal are rising at a concerning pace. The growth rate in the past week increased to 6%.
COVID-19 District Wise Report
Kolkata District remains the worst affected with over 2886 Coronavirus cases. Following that, Howrah and 24 North Parganas Districts have 1457 and 1158 cases. All 23 Districts in the state have reported 11 or more COVID-19 cases till date.
Tests in the State
Tests conducted till 8th June by the state are 280098. For every 1 million people 2890 have been tested.
Death Rate and Cured Cases
The coronavirus death rate in West Bengal is at an alarming level of 4.70% compared to the national average of 2.81%. The recovery rate is at 40.23% with over 3465 recoveries so far. The death toll is at 405 as 9 deaths were noted in the state today.
Unlock 1 Diminishes Social Distancing Norms
The state’s capital faced chaotic traffic on the first day of unlock. Also, large crowds wandering in the streets ignored the significance of social distancing. Further, the government buses were fully operational. Additionally, the government offices were functional with 70% staff.
West Bengal Extends Lockdown Till June 30
CM Mamata Banerjee announced an 15 days extension of lockdown in West Bengal. Even though, the lockdown is set to remain till June 30 considerable relaxations have been implemented. Following the unlock 1, within an hour the 5th phase of lockdown was announced in the state to prevent the spread of infection.
