Karnataka reported over 161 new Coronavirus cases today. Total Coronavirus cases in Karnataka now stand at 5921 nearing 6000. Meanwhile, it recorded 164 recoveries taking the cured count to 2683. Active cases as on date stand at 3170. The death toll stands at 66. Karnataka registered more recovered cases than new cases today.

Udupi District remains the worst affected, with 947 COVID-19 positive count. However, it did not report any new cases today. Kalaburagi and Yadgir Districts have relatively higher overall tally of 769 and 642 Coronavirus positive cases respectively. Sadly, after remaining COVID free till today, Chamarajanagara reported it’s the first Coronavirus case. As of today, all districts in Karnataka have reported positive coronavirus cases.

Mortality rate still remains 1.11% way below the national average of 2.79%. Total of Recovered cases increased to 2683. The death toll is at now 66 in Karnataka as 2 passed away from Bengaluru Urban and Kalaburagi.
New Testing Criteria for COVID-19 in Karnataka
The department of Health and Family Welfare specify that people with influenza-like symptoms from both containment zones and mitigation will be tested. This includes staff from all the departments. Earlier, the frontline workers from only containment zones were tested. Also, Maharashtra returnees that are above 60 years or co-morbid will undergo COVID-19 testing. Further, this is a mandatory protocol at the end of the institutional quarantine even though the said returnees are asymptomatic.
Critical Testing to Prevent Spread of COVID-19 Infection
As a possible measure to contain the spread of the contagious virus, severe guidelines put in place by the government. For instance, international passengers must undergo testing as well as 14 days quarantine. Further, the quarantine rule applies to inter-state passengers. Also, the patients are advised 14-day quarantine following their return to the sate.
