Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programme (ESDP) like the name, suggests an entrepreneurship scheme that assists to improve skills and gain knowledge in business. India’s economic advancement or rather its enhancement in any sector majorly depends on the youth of the nation. Focusing on that, awareness regarding the benefits of self-employment is created. Further, to emphasis the necessity for the emergence of entrepreneurship in MSMEs.
Such programs attempt to edify various pieces of industrial activity that help youth take up self employment . Accordingly, the entrepreneurship scheme is conducted through Industrial Training Institutes, Polytechnics and other institutions. Furthermore, Government provides quota under ESDP for SC, ST, handicap and people below the poverty line. Note that, no fees is applicable for candidates under quota section.
Objective
- To create more self-dependent employment opportunities for the youth
- Promoting the need for new businesses and assist to set up new MSMEs
- To enhance the technical skills of entrepreneurs and prospective entrepreneurs.
Eligibility
Individuals and MSMEs are eligible to apply for the programme. Thus, any individual who is over 18 years can enroll in the programme. The said canditate’s qualification of eligibility is set by Director of the institute.
Salient Features of the Scheme
- Over 20% of ESDP conducted for the benefits of backward classes of the society
- The candidates under Quota shall receive a stipend of Rs 500 per month owing to the Promotional Package scheme for MSMEs
- No fees charges for candidates under Quota
- ESDP Popularized as an outreach programme, its headed by MSME-DIs of Ministry
- The duration of the training will be for 6 weeks with minimum intake of 20 students
- About 5% of the yearly budget from the scheme used to give the pieces of training and provide advanced technologies
- 10% allotted to EDC or MSME-DIs for the smooth flowing of the programmes and to conducted associated meetings, workshops, etc.,
To increase the applicability of the scheme “Enterprise Development Centres”(EDCs) are established in various parts. Thereby, the unit focus on two things, one is the Enterprise Development and the other is skill development. While, enterprise development focuses on idealization, mentoring, credit, market access, and related facilities. The other provides training on market knowledge and industrial skills.

Working of the Scheme
- An Empowered Committee approved calendar of the program uploaded by EDC or DI or TC.
- The stated activities conducted based on the time frame required by each of the activities.
- The guest faculty/ lecturer will be priory selected and confirmed who would receive an honorarium as a token of appreciation.
- Integrated MIC maintains the list of the guest faculties.
- Feedback collected by participants to check for any improvements that could be undertaken.
- A project monitoring unit is mandatory for the effective working of the scheme.
