COVID-19 Update on Guidelines and Studies

As more number of countries experience outbreaks, people around the world adapt lifestyle changes in fear of COVID-19. WHO continues to update guidelines on coronavirus. Here are the latest studies covering the latest developments in COVID-19.

The Two Conflicting Studies

Recently, WHO claimed certain conflicting statements explaining that the governments must focus on isolating the symptomatic Coronavirus cases as the chances of asymptomatic people of spreading the virus are scarce. However, studies conducted by Annals of Internal Medicine on 16 different groups of COVID-19 concluded that 40% to 45% of COVID positive people are asymptomatic. Likewise, the study of the New England Journal of Medicine indicated that the majority of transmission of the virus took place through asymptomatic people. Besides, the guideline of social distancing issued by Centre for Diseases Control and Prevention depends on the presumption of asymptomatic spreading the virus.

Travel Rebounds and Change in Consumer Behaviors

On the other hand, Airbnb revealed that they had more U.S. bookings between May 17 and June 3. CEO Brian Chesky of Airbnb said that people prefer to travel within 200 miles of their homes. That signals that U.S. people are ready to explore their home country again. Apart, Michael Lynn, a professor of consumer behaviour at Cornell University, conducted a study and found out that people in the country are tipping more generously than before. The customer tips have increased owing to the job losses amid the pandemic.

Kids Health

WHO and UNICEF have issued COVID-19 guidelines to explain the kids about the virus. The organisation recommends kids to practice personal hygiene habits, also emphasises on washing hands frequently. Besides, they must cover coughs and sneezes using the elbow, if not with a handkerchief. Furthermore, guidelines concerning going outside vary from region to region. Besides, keeping a distance of 6 feet between individuals is necessary.

Children may feel upset about their events being cancelled for which they have been waiting for months, if not year. Offer empathy to your child and help them move towards acceptance in these unprecedented situations. WHO has recommends self-isolation if one feels unwell and going outside only with a mask in case of emergency.

Wearing Masks

WHO recommends wearing a mask when going outside, also highlights to handle it with care. Subsequently, it’s disposal should take place safely, while the reusable ones must be washed daily and dried in the sun. The COVID-19 reusable mask must consist of three layers, the inner one for absorbing the moisture, and the middle and the outer one for filtering and protecting.

In all, health officials opine that the world economies may see repeated openings and closings as cases surge. WHO is also updating guidelines concerning practices amid COVID-19 to eliminate rumours on the ground level and help to adapt the new normal.
