Delhi Police has permitted protesting farmers to conduct tractor parade in the national capital Delhi. Though government official raised concerns for violence, Union leaders assured them to hold a peaceful march against the farm laws.
Tractor Parade On Republic Day In Delhi
Thousands of protesting farmers will hold tractor parade on 26th January as the 11th round of discussion failed to end the deadlock. The parade will begin after the Republic Day. The police have also decided to keep Central Delhi off-limits, restricting protesters to areas near the city border. It has suggested farmers follow three circular routes, 60 km each, from Ghazipur, Singhu, and Tikri borders. They will enter the city from the planned routes and will take an exit from the same.
Delhi Police On Threat Perception
Deependra Pathak, Special Commissioner of Police Intelligence, said in a press conference that Delhi Police trust farmers. Though there are some threat perceptions, police will provide a secure environment to protestors for holding the tractor rally. Further, he added that the police trust farmers and have faith that they will not create any confusion.
Three Routes Finalized
Sukhwinder Singh Sabhra, Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee explained that permission granted by Delhi Police is conditional. They allocated protestors the area which mostly comes under Haryana. However, they want to go to the old Ring Road. Finally, farm unions and police have mutually decided three routes for the tractor parade.
Unions’ Guidelines
The farm union leaders have issued guidelines to eliminate confusions. It has strictly warned the protestors of deviating from the marked route. Police and volunteers (in green jackets) will guide the tractors. It has also directed people not to play music on tractors so that everyone can hear the announcements made. They have appealed to carry out a peaceful rally.
In all, lakhs of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, U.P, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh have gathered at the protest site to hold tractor rally against the three farm laws. Meanwhile, police have advised people to avoid NH44, GT-Karnal road and NH10 routes tomorrow.
