17793 Crores Released Under PM- Kisan Samman Nidhi
Considering the effects of lockdown, the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation, and Farmers Welfare have released Rs. 17,793 crore from 24 March to date. PM-Kisan has benefitted around 8.89 Crore families. Further, the government has decided to distribute pulses to the eligible households under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PM-GKY).
This scheme will provide one kilogram of free pulses per month to every ration card holder covered under National Food Security Act (NFSA). Pulses will be provided for three months, that is, till June under PM-GKY.
Benefits to 19.50 Crore Households
The officials revealed that 107,077.85 million tonnes of pulses have been issued to states and UT’s in order to provide food security in the prevailing situation. Andaman and Nicobar, Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Daman & Diu, Goa, Gujarat have already started the distribution of pulses. Besides, States like Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telangana, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi will commence the distribution in a phased manner as they have received partial stock yet. The scheme will benefit 19.50 crore households spread across 36 States and UTs in the country.
In all, the government is making efforts to reboot the economy while making sure that the deprived do not suffer.
